Acting & Directing Workshop 1: Grades 7-12

This 90-minute class meets Monday and Wednesday mornings for 24 sessions, capped off by a showcase of acting scenes and portfolios created by the students. The class is appropriate for both novice and experienced students using the Meisner acting technique. Students will actively participate in workshops with theater professionals, and take their next step forward in the realms of performance, leadership, and self-confidence.

Tuition for 24 class sessions is $360; class size limited to 20 students.

Comprehensive Theater 1: Grades 7-12

This 90-minute class meets Tuesday and Thursday mornings for 24 sessions, capped off by a student-produced one act play featuring an all-student cast and crew. The class is appropriate for both novice and experienced students. Students will learn about all aspects of theatrical production, from building a set and designing costumes to promoting an event and being a stage manager. Students will actively participate in workshops with theater professionals, and grow as both leaders and technicians as they have fun creating a performance for the stage.

Young Playwrights Program: Grades 7-12

This 90-minute class meets Monday evenings for 8 sessions capped off by a staged reading of student-written scenes and plays. The class is appropriate for both novice and experienced student playwrights. Students will actively participate in workshops with published playwrights, who will guide them through the process of writing their own scenes and plays.

Tuition for 8 class sessions is $200; class size limited to 15 students.

Youth Theater Production: Grades 7-12

Penguin Point Productions is proud to present youth theater offerings in the spring, with rehearsals on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30-8:30pm and Sundays from 2-5pm for eight weeks, culminating in a weekend of public performances. Upcoming shows include DISNEY’S HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL and THE GREAT GATSBY. Auditions will be announced soon for our Sprint 2019 show!

There is a $100 activity fee for all students involved in our Youth Theater Productions, which is waived for any current student in one of our Home School Theater courses. This fee helps defray production costs and includes a free t-shirt and a very memorable cast and crew experience!

Home School Vocal Classes

(Starting in January 2019!)

 

Beginning Voice: Grades 2-8

This 60-minute class meets Monday and Wednesday at 9am and will conclude with a public recital performance in which students demonstrate their growth over the semester. This class is appropriate for beginning voice students; no previous music or voice study experience necessary. Students will learn the foundations for healthy vocal technique, basic music theory and will gain self-confidence through finding their voice and encouraging performance opportunities.

Tuition for 24 class sessions is $360 ($15 per class); class size limited to 20 students.

Intermediate Voice – Grades 7-12

This 60-minute class meets Monday and Wednesday at 10:30am and will conclude with a public recital performance in which students demonstrate their growth over the semester. This class is appropriate for both beginner and experienced students. Students will explore different styles and genres of vocal music, vocal technique, music theory and acting for singers. This class will help students grow as musicians and actors and help them to find their voice in a fun and interactive way. Students will receive consistent feedback to improve their technique and performance.

Tuition for 24 class sessions is $360 ($15 per class); class size limited to 20 students.

Contemporary Musical Theatre Workshop – Grades 7-12

This 90-minute class meets Monday and Wednesday at Noon and will culminate in a scenes performance by students. This course will introduce students to contemporary musical theater repertoire, character types and audition technique. The class will also address lesser discussed topics including headshot, resume and professionalism in the musical theater and opera world. Students will learn how to choose appropriate audition and performances pieces for their voice and character.

Tuition for 24 class sessions is $360 ($15 per class); class size limited to 20 students.

Classical Musical Theatre Workshop – Grades 7-12

This 90-minute class meets Monday and Wednesday at 2pm and will culminate in a scenes performance by students. This course will introduce students to classical musical theater and operetta repertoire, character archetypes and audition technique. The class will also address lesser discussed topics including head shot, resume and professionalism in the musical theater and opera world.Students will learn how to choose appropriate audition and performances pieces for their voice and character.

Tuition for 24 class sessions is $360 ($15 per class); class size limited to 20 students.

Home School Dance Classes

(Starting in January 2019!)

Beginning Ballet – Grades 2-6

In this 60-minute class which meets on Tuesday and Thursday at 9am, Students will learnfundamental ballet vocabulary that supports a strong sense of technique and how this technique will build upon itself over time, allowing them to experience success as they progress to more intricate steps. Students should expect structured fundamental physical work. Class will consist of a warm up barre, into center work, and finally across the floor. Students are expected to wear a leotard, tights and ballet slippers.

Tuition for 24 class sessions is $360 ($15 per class); Drop-in rate of $25 per class; class size

limited to 20 students.

This 60-minute class meets on Tuesday and Thursday at Noon, and will be for students who already possess and understand the ballet vocabulary and basic technique. The class will be structured similarly to Beginning Ballet but with a focus on more advanced sequences of steps. Towards the end of class series, students will incorporate short variations to begin working on choreography retention. Students should expect to be consistently given feedback and correction to improve and safely learn how to execute more complex steps. Students are expected to wear a leotard, tights and ballet slippers.

Musical Theater Dance – Grades 7-12

This 60-minute class which meets on Tuesday and Thursday at 1:30pm will vary weekly based on essential Broadway Musical Theatre styles. The warm up and across the floor work will be focused on the style of the Musical Theatre show chosen. Each class, students will learn a short combination that connects what the student learned in the warm up and across the floor combinations. This class will also incorporate expression of emotions and moods established by the musical piece and genre. Students may wear any clothing in which they can comfortably move but preferably more form fitting.

After School Programs

(Starting in October 2018!)

Theatrical Leadership 1: Grades 9-12

This 120-minute class meets Sunday afternoons from 1-3pm for a 16-week session capped off by our group management of the Florida State Junior Thespian Festival at the Orange County Convention Center in February. The class is designed for students with interest in arts administration and leadership. Students will learn about all aspects of event management as they plan and execute a festival for 5000 middle school students. Community service points available.

Tuition for 16 class sessions is $360, but this cost can be waived through our work-study program. Class size is limited to 30 students and is done through an application process.

Penguin Point Internships: Grades 9-12

Student interns will help run the daily business of Penguin Point Productions, gaining first-hand experience at managing a community theater and costume shop. Hours are determined by student availability and company needs.

Internships are free, of course, and can eventually turn into paid jobs. Apply for an internship now!
